C Level Management

The “C Suite” is often associated with top-level management in Corporate America.  However, with thousands of emerging technology-based and high growth businesses being created across the country every day, “C-Level Managers” (Chief Executive Officers, Chief Financial Officers, Chief Technology Officers, etc.) are now more in demand than ever.  It is also important to note the significant differences in preparing for the C-Suite of Corporate America (which can take an entire professional career) versus the C-Level of an emerging company which many talented professionals may qualify for today.  With thousands of tomorrow’s big companies being created every day, now is the time to “get in on the ground floor” in joining the management team of an emerging business.  Some of the key characteristics of successful C-Level Managers in emerging companies include:

  • Integrity and Ethical Standards – essentially doing the right thing by upholding ethical and professional standards, and being honest and upright in all activities.
  • Competence – demonstrated excellence in meeting and exceeding expectations on all assignments and responsibilities
  • Perspective on Risk - the willingness to try new things and take calculated risks to grow the business.
  • Results Oriented - the ability to set goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and traceable to effectively manage the expectations of all organizational stakeholders.
  • Leadership Skills – the ability to effectively motivate a team and drive organization-wide performance through delegation, emotional intelligence, self-awareness, self-regulation, and strong inter-personal skills.
  • Excellent Communication Skills - written and oral communication skills are an essential quality for a leader.

In addition to the above, the following additional skill sets are important considerations for C-Level Managers:

  • Proven strategic planning responsibility and execution
  • Proven ability to generate revenue
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a team or line of business
  • Proven ability to create and manage budgets
  • Proven ability to multi-task and manage time in an efficient and effective manner
